Interviews
Why is it that the mere word "interview" can turn a generally well-spoken, intelligent person into a blathering idiot with a laugh like a sick goose?
Yes, I'm talking about me. At least I think I'm generally well-spoken. Until I get in an interview.
Yesterday, I went to an interview for a position working with an advanced Search and Rescue unit that I'd really like to volunteer with. This wasn't even an interview for a new career, and it still scared the beejeebers out of me.
Asking a writer to think on her feet and answer the questions of a five-person panel just isn't fair! I need a Backspace key on my mouth! I need time to plot my responses! I don't do witty dialogue in real time! I need time to sweat over each word and rewrite it at least four times. I need...I need...
to not laugh like a sick goose when I'm nervous.
Sigh. Okay, I have no idea whether I'll be accepted onto the team. At least, as a writer, I'm used to rejection.
In the meantime, I'm in wait and see mode. So while I'm waiting, I thought I'd share a photo of my search dog Krista. I took this on the day she learned to climb a ladder. Not a natural thing for a dog to do, believe me! But it is one of the required skills for SAR dogs.
Until later,
Vickie

Vickie,
I visited your page after your workshop this morning at the DARA meeting. I was a visitor, and I'm so glad I got to hear your "blob" talk. I'm going to look for "Carved in Stone," but I'm especially looking forward to your "Hellraiser and the Angel" novella.
Your dog is beautiful! I hope you'll post on your blog if you are excepted to work with the S&R team.
Thanks for stopping by, Rosemary! Glad you enjoyed the talk. I always feel a little silly talking about writing...like I'm pretending I know what I'm talking about when in reality, sometimes it's just as much a mystery to me how stories form as it is to anyone else. And yes...Krista and I made the team. We are now one of the "top dogs" in Texas.
